On Saturday, November 1st The 5 Spot participated in the Kiwanis Club of Skidaway’s annual Chili Cook-Off at The Landings in Savannah.
The Kiwanis Club “has been serving Savannah’s kids for 27 years. They’ve raised and distributed over $1,400,000 and invested over 300,000 service hours in the mission of helping the children of Savannah. With a current 130 members all volunteering weekly, the club sponsors several fundraising events each year to support charitable causes and has other fundraising programs that operate year-round”.
It was an overcast “chilly” day with winds blustering making it a great day to eat chili and drink beer, all for a good cause. Armed with over 60 pounds of awesome chili–The 5 Spot did not disappoint. They took home 1st place in one of the two categories (judge & people’s choice) with their smoked brisket & pork shoulder chili. Chef Alex & Manager James put their culinary minds together to come up with a smokey, not-too-spicy, and sexy chili (yes, this chili was sexy) & topped each serving with shredded smoked white cheddar & a roasted corn salsa.
“We came. We cooked chili. We conquered…supporting local charity & feeding Savannah great food–that’s how we roll at Gaslight and at The 5 Spot!”
Three cheers for chili!
